CAMPAIGN FOR PERFUME-FREE AIR

This is co-ordinated by Elizabeth Hart - a retired social worker and someone who knows by personal experience the social isolation and challenge of being affected by indoor pollution such as chemicals and perfume. She is an affiliated member of our group. This Campaign started as the Chemical & Perfume Sensitivity Network to provide information locally. It went national with the production of badges (see below). As other established national organizations are covering allergies and chemical sensitivity, Elizabeth has now changed the name of the Network to the above Campaign to specifically focus on reducing perfumed products used in our environment and to raise awareness.

The aims of the campaign, at this early stage, are to:

  • continue exchange of information with other organisations such as Allergy UK, Friends of the Earth and Women’s Environmental Network.
  • set up website with hyperlinks to related web sites
  • .
  • take part in relevant campaigns to raise awareness in a positive way (eg National Chemical Sensitivity Awareness Day every February).
  • Sell for £1 (inc p&p) 1000 badges with logo “Your perfume my poison”to help individuals affected by the perfumed products of those around them and replenish funds, which have been used up to purchase and publicise the badges.
  • write to manufacturers, shops and any other public service about their service and how to improve it for people affected by perfume. A report has already been sent to the Patient & Public Involvement Forum for Blackburn, Hyndburn & Ribble Valley Acute Hospital Trust and Primary Care Team. A copy was sent to the Patient Advice & Liaison Service. See below for details
  • Elizabeth is in contact with Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston, S.W. Cumbria, which has an adapted self-catering ground floor unit. It is owned by the Society of Friends (Quakers).
  • If you would like to buy badges or want more information, you can contact Elizabeth c/o Ribble Valley Council for Voluntary Service, 1 Swan Mews, off Castle Street, Clitheroe, Lancs BB7 2BX (01200 422995) or e-mail: ribblevalleycvs@ic24.net. Cheques should be made payable to Ribble Valley CVS for £1 for badges.
