NORTH WEST LOCAL SUPPORT GROUPSThese are some of the other support groups in the North West:
AfME and the MEA list local support groups across the UK.
The Bury Bolton ME group is aimed at supporting carers and sufferers from ME. There are en estimated 860 sufferers in Bolton and 460 in Bury, according to Action for ME national figures. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 7.30pm until 9pm, except in April, August and December.
Chester MESH is a self-help group for those people suffering with CFS/ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) who wish to be pro-active in their own recovery programme.
The Central Lancashire ME/CFS Suppoert Group was formed by the merger of the Preston and Chorley and South Ribble ME/CFS Support Groups.
Morecambe Bay ME Group is an association of local people, both sufferers and carers, who have come together with the following aims to provide mutual support and companionship, to keep members updated with medical research and treatment regimes, to give information and advice about benefits, social services and aid agencies and to campaign for better NHS services within Morecambe Bay area.
M.E.E.D was created by an ME sufferer living in Penrith. Jo-anne has had ME since 1993. For 6 years she was very severely affected, bedridden and unable to care for herself. She has now made a partial recovery and works occasionally as a volunteer for the 25% ME group (a national charity for the severely affected) and also helps run a national website for people with ME called MEchat. Jo-anne was frustrated by the lack of local support and services for people with ME in Penrith & surrounding areas and hopes that this website will provide much needed information, especially for those newly diagnosed with the disease. NB this is an email and web support group - no meetings.
The Stockport ME Group was formed in 1988 by a small group of people with myalgic encephalomyelitis. Since then it has grown to encompass several hundred adults and children in Stockport and the surrounding areas. The Group provides local advice and information so that, largely through 'self-help', M.E. sufferers can manage their illness better and improve their recovery. The Group produces the newsletter HERMES which is sent, free of charge, to member's home adresses. It provides up-to-date local information, advice, comment and details of group activities.
NB descriptions are taken or paraphrased from groups' own literature. Any changes? Please tell our webmaster.
